Reliability snapshot

Moving onto the MQB platform, the second Tiguan first-owns the EGR-cooler and DPF patterns of the newer EA288 2.0 TDI: carbon and coolant fouling in the cooler and stalled regeneration cycles on cars used mostly for short urban trips are the two complaints that recur most often, alongside AdBlue/SCR sensor faults that can trigger a no-start warning if ignored for too long. The petrol 1.4 TSI and 2.0 TSI carried over largely known EA211/EA888.3 behaviour rather than introducing anything new, so their entries live on the pages that first modelled those units. The generation offered a standard-wheelbase SUV body everywhere and a stretched long-wheelbase version for China and North America. Transmissions ran from a 6-speed manual through the DQ200 and DQ381 dry-clutch DSGs to the heavier-duty DQ500 on the higher-output engines; both front-wheel and 4MOTION all-wheel drive were available depending on market and trim. China, the EU, North America and Russia all received meaningful allocations, with the 1.4 and 2.0 TSI petrols forming the RU-market core and the TDI staying largely European. A mid-cycle facelift refreshed the styling and added driver-assistance features without altering the drivetrain lineup. As with every page in this series, nothing above has been checked against a manufacturer bulletin — it is community orientation for a pre-purchase inspection, not a verdict on any individual car's condition.
