Reliability snapshot

The Arteon first-owns the fourth-generation EA888 2.0 TSI (badged "evo4," a further revision beyond the generation 3 unit used elsewhere in this era's range) in this contour: coolant weeping from the water-pump and thermostat module, intake-valve carbon build-up, a crankcase-breather diaphragm failure in the valve cover, and gradually elevated oil consumption are the patterns specific to this engine and this page. The carried-over 1.4 and 1.5 TSI and the 2.0 TDI apply the patterns already documented on Golf and Passat pages without modification. Sold as a liftback and, from the facelift onward, a shooting-brake wagon variant, the Arteon paired its engines with the DQ200, DQ381, DQ400e (on the plug-in hybrid) and DQ500 dual-clutch automatics — no manual gearbox was offered on this flagship model. Both front-wheel drive and 4MOTION all-wheel drive were available depending on engine and trim. The EU and Russia both received meaningful allocations of the mainstream petrol range, with the TDI staying largely European. A mid-cycle facelift added the shooting-brake body and refreshed the styling and electronics.
