The second-generation Highlander (XU40, 2007–2013) is built around the 3.5 L V6 (2GR-FE), which is the engine Russia officially received in FWD and AWD. A 2.7 L four-cylinder (1AR-FE) joined for 2009 in some markets, and the Highlander Hybrid used a 3.3 L V6 (3MZ-FE) for 2008–2010 before switching to a 3.5 L V6 (2GR-FXE) from 2011.
