Local preview — inspection orientation

The Peugeot 108 (B3) was built from July 2014 to January 2022 as a three- or five-door city-car hatchback, succeeding the 107 and continuing to share its platform with the Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1, built at the TPCA plant in Kolin, Czech Republic. The Toyota-sourced 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol was fitted throughout production, but the exact engine revision changed partway through: the 1KR-FE ran from 2014 to 2018, then the revised 1KR-B52 from 2018 to 2022. A PSA-sourced 1.2 (EB2-F) was also offered from 2014 to 2018.

The two Toyota engine revisions are worth distinguishing when buying, since parts compatibility can differ between them even though both are the same basic 1.0-litre three-cylinder architecture. Beyond confirming which revision is fitted, this contour documents no engine-specific issue for either Toyota-sourced unit or the EB2-F; approach them with the same general fault-code and service-history checks as any other car.

To judge a specific 108, confirm from the registration document which engine revision it carries, and get a full fault-code read across all control units, keeping the printout.

Pre-purchase checklist

Diagnostics
  • Have a full fault-code read done across all control units on this 108 and take a copy with you
Documents
  • Confirm from the registration document whether this 108 has the early 1KR-FE or the later 1KR-B52 engine, and check parts compatibility accordingly
  • This PSA-sourced engine is part of the EB2 family, documented elsewhere in this contour as using a wet timing belt — ask specifically whether the belt has ever been replaced and check the oil-change history
