Hyundai i30 PD
The September 2016 Korean i30 PD is more than a continuation of the old hatchback: it is a compact with a tighter powertrain formula — a 140-PS 1.4-litre petrol turbo, front-wheel drive and a seven-speed DCT. An engine catalogue identifies it as the G4LD, a direct-injected, turbocharged 1.4 with a timing chain.
In a used PD, that hardware calls for a sequence rather than a verdict. A metallic first-start noise is a reason to check the chain and CVVT response; rough idle or hesitation is a reason to inspect intake valves without turning routine service into an assumed internal repair.
The PD can be a lively hatchback when inspection includes the DCT's behaviour in slow city traffic as well as the engine. Oil-service history, a cold start and clean pull-away give a more useful picture than the model's general reputation.
