Overview
Local preview — inspection orientation

The fifth-generation Mondeo (2014-2022) diverged sharply between markets: Ford Sollers built it at Vsevolozhsk from April 2015 with EcoBoost petrol engines only, while the EU-built car additionally offered Duratorq TDCi and, from 2019, EcoBlue diesel.

The EU-market 2.0 Duratorq TDCi diesel is named in the same UK DVSA cylinder-head-crack recall confirmed for the Mondeo Mk4/S-Max/Galaxy of the same era, so a VIN recall check and cylinder-head inspection apply specifically to that engine; the RU-market EcoBoost and the later EcoBlue diesel need their own checks.

Assessing an individual example means confirming market of origin and exact engine from the documents and VIN before choosing which of these routes applies — the wrong assumption here is easy to make given how similar the badging looks across the range.

Filtered: DURATORQ-TDCI-2.0 · 2.0 Duratorq TDCi.

Pre-purchase checklist

Diagnostics
  • Check whether the revised ECM calibration (the official remedy for this recall — improves overheat detection and adds an instrument-cluster warning plus an engine de-rate strategy) has already been installed on this specific car via its service history/recall status, and inspect the oil sump area for any sign of a prior overheating-related repair
Documents
  • Confirm the market and engine from the documents — RU-built Mondeo Mk5 cars are EcoBoost petrol only; a diesel-badged car claiming RU origin needs its paperwork checked carefully
