The EcoSport sold in Europe (2014-2022) and the RU-built EcoSport assembled by Ford Sollers at Naberezhnye Chelny (2014-2019) were, despite the shared name, powered by genuinely different physical engines: a turbocharged 1.0 EcoBoost in the EU car versus a naturally aspirated 1.6 Duratec Ti-VCT in the RU-built car.

The EU-market 1.0 EcoBoost carries the same documented cylinder-head coolant-intrusion risk confirmed on other Fox-family applications, so the cooling-system pressure test applies there; the RU-built naturally aspirated 1.6 has no comparable evidence yet confirmed and needs its own service-history check.

Assessing an individual example means confirming market and engine from the documents and VIN before choosing an inspection route — the two markets' EcoSport do not share a powertrain.

  • Pressure-test the cooling system and check for a slow pressure drop with no visible external leak; pull the dipstick and filler cap and check for a milky emulsion; a workshop can confirm with a UV-dye coolant trace or a borescope inspection of the cylinder head for micro-cracks

  • Confirm market and engine from the documents — RU-built EcoSport used a naturally-aspirated 1.6 engine, physically different from the EU car's turbo 1.0 EcoBoost
