Reliability snapshot

The E60 introduced bold styling and a lot of new technology. Common items are early iDrive/electronics faults, the N54 turbo's high-pressure fuel pump on 535i, valve-stem seals and cooling on the N62 V8, and general cooling-system wear. Diesel M57/N57 cars are strong. The E60 rewards buyers who check the electronics and, on turbo/V8 cars, the known engine wear points; routine cooling maintenance is essential.
