Reliability snapshot

The sixth-generation Polo grew onto the MQB A0 platform and brought the three-cylinder 1.0 TSI, the updated EA211-evo 1.5 TSI, and the EA288 1.6 TDI into the range for the first time, alongside a facelifted 2.0 TSI GTI drivetrain shared with the Golf. Early cars of the 1.5 TSI EVO occasionally show a low-speed hesitation or mild juddering that traces back to the Active Cylinder Technology cylinder-deactivation logic rather than a mechanical fault, and it is worth confirming whether a software update has already been applied before assuming a worse cause. Turbo wastegate actuator faults and intake-valve carbon build-up on the direct-injection engines are the other two patterns to watch. The range grew a body style along with the platform: a conventional hatchback plus, for markets that wanted a sedan-shaped alternative, a liftback sold under separate naming in some regions. Transmissions ranged from 5- and 6-speed manuals through the DQ200, DQ250 and DQ381 dual-clutch units to a Tiptronic torque-converter on lower-output engines; drive stayed front-wheel only. Russia and the EU both received the mainstream 1.6 MPI, 1.4 TSI and 1.0 TSI trims, with the GTI's 2.0 TSI reserved for EU order books. A mid-generation facelift refreshed the lighting and infotainment without changing the drivetrain lineup. As with every page in this contour, none of the above has been checked against a manufacturer bulletin or recall database — it is community orientation for a pre-purchase inspection, not a reliability rating.
