Reliability snapshot

The A6 Jetta first-owns the 2.5-litre inline-five 20-valve engine sold in North America — a further evolution of the naturally aspirated five-cylinder line — whose ignition-coil misfires, timing-chain tensioner rattle at higher mileage, and plastic water-pump impeller leaks are the patterns unique to this page. The rest of the range reuses the well-documented 1.6 and 1.4 TSI/MPI engines and the 1.6/2.0 TDI diesels from earlier Golf and Jetta pages, so a used A6 with a European-market engine should be checked against those entries instead. Body styles were sedan-only across every market this generation reached. Transmissions ran 5- and 6-speed manuals, the DQ200 and DQ250 dual-clutch DSGs, and a Tiptronic torque-converter automatic on the 2.5-litre variant; drive was front-wheel only throughout. China, the EU, North America and Russia all received meaningful volumes, with the 2.5 MPI staying essentially North-American, the smaller TSI/MPI engines serving Russia and Europe, and the TDI largely confined to Europe. A mid-cycle facelift refreshed the styling without altering the drivetrain lineup. None of this has been checked against Volkswagen's factory service documentation — it is community-level orientation for a pre-purchase inspection, not a conclusion about any individual car.
