Reliability snapshot

The Mk6 Golf first-owns the naturally aspirated EA111 1.4 MPI base engine and the 1.6 TDI diesel in this contour, while carrying forward the 1.2, 1.4 and the 2.0 TSI/TFSI units already documented on earlier pages. Its own additions are relatively mild: the 1.4 MPI's ignition-coil wear causing misfires, and the 1.6 TDI's early exposure to EGR and injector fouling common to the whole EA189 family. A used Mk6 is worth checking primarily for the patterns of whichever specific engine it carries rather than for anything unique to this bodyshell. Body styles covered a 3- and 5-door hatchback, a cabriolet, and a wagon (Variant); gearboxes ran from 5- and 6-speed manuals through the DQ200 and DQ250 dual-clutch automatics to a Tiptronic torque-converter on some naturally aspirated engines. Drive was front-wheel only across the range — no 4MOTION Golf existed at this generation. Both the EU and Russian markets received the mainstream engines, with the GTI's 2.0 TSI as the range-topper in both. No facelift interrupted the Mk6's relatively short production run before the Mk7 replaced it. Nothing above has been checked against Volkswagen's own service bulletins — it is community orientation for a pre-purchase inspection, and each item is a prompt to look closer rather than a conclusion.
