The W212 E-Class launch range was offered with the M271 four-cylinder and M272 V6 petrols, the M273 V8, and the OM651 four-cylinder and OM642 V6 diesels. Standard transmissions varied by trim: a six-speed manual on the entry petrol and the four-cylinder diesels, a five-speed automatic on the E 250 CGI, and the 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic on the six- and eight-cylinder models.
