Overview
Source-reviewed inspection orientation

The 2012 Santa Fe DM returned a more flowing silhouette to the model while retaining its family role. The Korean version combines a 200-PS 2.2-litre diesel, front- or all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic; a catalogue confirms D4HB for this 2.2 CRDi application.

With a D4HB, a metallic cold-start sound should not be dismissed as generic diesel character. The specialist material directs attention to the balance-shaft/oil-pump module and to oil level and pressure before a repair decision is made.

A good DM is one whose strong torque does not conceal accumulated questions. Cold start, even response under load, absence of concerning noises and a readable service record are a sensible minimum before purchase.
