Overview
Source-reviewed inspection orientation

The 2000 Avante XD, known as the Elantra in other markets, was a compact sedan with a clear mission: adult dimensions without unnecessary complexity. Korean specification records a 1.5-litre petrol engine, front-wheel drive and either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic; a catalogue maps the 1.5 DOHC application to G4EC.

On such a car, the timing belt is not a reason for alarm but a mandatory part of the history to check. If there is no service record or noise comes from the drive side, inspect the drive and establish its condition before drawing conclusions about the engine.

The strength of a good XD is the coherence of its responses: even idle, a predictable gearbox and no surprise after an overnight stop. That is not a generation rating; it is a practical way to separate a sound example from one carrying deferred work.

Filtered: G4EC · Alpha 1.5 DOHC (G4EC).
