Hyundai Elantra HD
The Elantra HD, called Avante in Korea, arrived in May 2006 with space and calm ergonomics rather than visual drama as its priorities. The Korean version has front-wheel drive, a 121-PS 1.6-litre I4 VVT and a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic; a catalogue links that 1.6 CVVT to G4FC.
That is why an HD should be inspected without romanticising its age. Chain noise at the first start is a distinct check, while oil use or a compression concern calls for endoscopy and measurement before repair is discussed.
A good HD has a straightforward, coherent logic: clear controls, an even engine and a predictable gearbox. If it passes that basic test and has an intelligible history, it expresses the generation's original idea better than any advert figure.
