Reliability snapshot
The F40 1 Series moved to a front-wheel-drive-based platform with transverse three- and four-cylinder engines — a significant change from the earlier rear-drive cars. It is relatively new, so documented long-term issues are limited; reported items are mostly minor electronics and routine cooling and oil service. The B38 three-cylinder and B48 four-cylinder turbos, and the B47 diesel, are dependable modular engines.
